Privacy Policy

gistmint ("gistmint", "we", "us") operates gistmint.com, an AI video and audio transcription platform. This policy explains what data we collect when you use the service, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep the amount of personal data we collect to what the service actually needs.

Information we collect

  • Account data. When you sign up, we store your email address and, if you use Google sign-in, the basic profile fields Google returns (name, email, avatar URL). We store a hashed password only if you register with email and password — never the plaintext.
  • Content you provide. The YouTube links you paste and the video or audio files you upload to transcribe, plus the transcripts and subtitles the service produces for you. These are tied to your account so we can run your transcription and show you the result.
  • Billing data. If you subscribe, payments are processed by Stripe. We receive your subscription status, plan, and the last four digits and brand of your card — we never see or store your full card number.
  • Usage data. Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps) and privacy-respecting product analytics, used to keep the service reliable and to understand which features are used.

How we use your data

  • To transcribe the links and files you submit and return your transcripts and subtitles.
  • To operate your account, apply your credit balance, and process subscriptions.
  • To send transactional email (verification, receipts, and account notices).
  • To secure the service, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your uploaded files or your transcripts to train foundation models.

gistmint Chrome extension

If you install the gistmint extension for Chrome, it handles data as follows:

  • What it reads. Only when you click the gistmint extension, it reads the address of your current tab to find the YouTube video you are watching. It does not read your browsing history or the content of other web pages.
  • What it sends. When you click “Get transcript”, it sends that YouTube video link to gistmint.com, together with your gistmint sign-in session (the gistmint cookies in your browser), so we can fetch the transcript and apply your credit balance. It does not send data to anyone other than gistmint.com.
  • What is saved. The extension itself does not store your data. Successful transcripts are saved to your gistmint library on gistmint.com, the same as transcripts you create on the website, and are covered by the rest of this policy.
  • Clipboard. It writes the transcript to your clipboard only when you click the copy button.

Data from the extension is used only to provide its transcript features. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or transfer it to third parties except the AI providers described below, and the use of information received through the extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

AI providers

Transcription requests are sent to third-party AI model providers to produce your results. Only the input needed for the transcription (the link or the audio of the file you supply) is sent, and it is used to return your transcript, not to identify you.

Storage and hosting

gistmint runs on Cloudflare's global network. Your uploaded video and audio files are stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage, and account records in a Cloudflare D1 database. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by our infrastructure providers.

Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences (such as language). We do not use advertising cookies.

Data retention

We keep your account data and library for as long as your account is active. You can ask us to delete individual uploads or transcripts at any time. When you close your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain records to meet legal or accounting obligations.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these, email us at the address below and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.

Children

gistmint is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date, and where appropriate we will notify you.
