How the free-first model works

gistmint is built around a simple split. The everyday video jobs — shrinking a file so it fits an upload limit, converting a clip to a format that plays everywhere, trimming, cropping and making a looping GIF — run entirely inside your browser. Nothing uploads to a server, so there is no cost to us to pass on to you, and there is no signup wall in front of them. That half of the product is free on every plan and stays free.

The AI half is different. Transcribing speech, removing a background, turning a long video into short clips and applying per-clip AI in the editor all call paid AI models that charge for every run. Credits are how that real cost is metered fairly: a plan gives you a monthly balance, each AI action draws it down, and the plan you pick is really a question of how much AI work you expect to do in a month. Free browser tools never spend a credit, so a small balance still goes a long way.

Because of that split you can get real work done before you ever pay. Start with the free tools, use your 4 sign-up credits to see whether the AI features fit your workflow, and only upgrade once you know you want a larger, refreshing monthly balance.

Pricing questions

Is gistmint free to use?

You can browse every tool and reuse a transcript — copy it, download TXT or SRT, or convert subtitle formats — for free. Running a new transcript (turning a YouTube link, video or audio file into text) uses credits after you sign in, because the speech-to-text runs on paid models. New accounts start with free credits so you can try it first.

What do the paid plans add?

A larger monthly credit balance for transcription, plus a saved transcript library, folders, and bulk and channel transcription as they roll out.

Do I need an account?

Only to run a transcript, since that spends credits. Browsing the tools, reading this site, and converting or downloading subtitle files you already have need no account.

What is a credit, and what uses them?

Credits are spent by transcription — turning a video, audio file or YouTube link into text runs on paid speech-to-text models behind the scenes. Reusing that text — copying it, downloading TXT or SRT, or converting between subtitle formats — never touches your credit balance.

How many credits do the plans include?

Pro includes 100 credits a month. New accounts also get 4 credits on sign-up so you can transcribe a couple of things before choosing a plan.

What happens when I run out of credits?

Nothing breaks. Your saved transcripts stay available and you can keep copying, downloading and converting them. To run new transcripts, move up a plan for a larger monthly balance or wait for your balance to refresh on the next billing cycle.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes — plans are month to month and you can change or cancel whenever you like. Your existing transcripts remain yours to copy and download.
