How credits work
gistmint is built around a simple split. Reusing a transcript — copying it, downloading it as TXT, SRT or VTT — and the free subtitle tools never touch your balance. Those steps run in your browser and cost us nothing, so there is nothing to meter.
Getting a new transcript is different, because it calls a paid service every time. A YouTube video that has captions costs 1 credit — gistmint takes the captions the video already has. A video or audio file you upload has to be transcribed by an AI model; that costs 4 credits per minute of audio, rounded up to the whole minute, and it is part of the Pro plan. A YouTube video with no captions can’t be read from its link; if you have the file, upload it instead. A video summary costs 1 credit, also on Pro. If a run fails, the credits reserved for it are released — you only pay when a result comes back.
New accounts get 5 credits once, when they sign up. They do not refill. Pro adds 600 credits every month for $9.99.

What does Pro add?
600 credits every month, AI transcription of the video and audio files you upload at 4 credits per minute of audio, and video summaries — an overview plus timestamped key points — at 1 credit each.
Do I need an account?
Only for steps that cost credits, like getting a new transcript or a summary. Your transcripts are saved to your account’s library. Reading the site and using the free subtitle tools need no account.
What does a transcript cost?
A YouTube video with captions costs 1 credit. AI transcription of a file you upload costs 4 credits per minute of audio, rounded up to the whole minute, on Pro. A YouTube video without captions is not charged — upload its file instead if you have it.
Do the free credits refill?
No. The 5 sign-up credits are a one-time grant for your account, not a daily or monthly allowance. Pro credits are added each billing month.
What happens when I run out of credits?
Nothing breaks. You can keep copying and exporting the transcripts you already have and keep using the free subtitle tools. To get new transcripts, upgrade to Pro or wait for your next Pro month.

Yes. Pro is month to month and you can change or cancel whenever you like.
